The First School of Medicine

First Clinical Medical College is the earliest school founded in ZJ Chinese Medical University. It mainly takes on the teaching tasks of the Chinese medicine and Chinese and western clinic medicine and currently implements an operation mode that incorporates medical practice with medical teaching.    

The Chinese medicine specialty, inaugurated in 1959, is a province-level key specialty approved by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education in 2003 and becomes a state-level characteristics specialty in 2008. Relying on the First Affiliated Hospital (Zhejiang Provincial Academy of Chinese Medicine) of ZJ Chinese Medical University, the school has a profound reserve of teaching resources and has had achieved a series of outstanding results.

Here are specifics concerning the teaching resources and strength of the Chinese medicine specialty: currently the staff consists of 264 teachers, of which 60 are professors (chief physicians), 81 associate professors (deputy chief physicians), and 109 lecturers (physicians); 51 are doctoral supervisors and 260 are postgraduate supervisors.

At the moment, the school has in place three undergraduate major systems, namely Chinese medicine (six years), Chinese medicine (seven years), and clinic medicine (medical imaging direction). It has eleven academic research offices, two Chinese medicine post-doctorate mobile research stations, three doctoral programs (Chinese internal medicine, combined Chinese and western clinic medicine, and Chinese medicine for bone injuries), and nine postgraduate programs (Chinese internal medicine, Chinese gynecological medicine, Chinese pediatric medicine, Chinese surgical medicine, orthopedics and traumatology, ophthalmology and othorhinolaryngology, western internal medicine, combined Chinese and western clinic medicine, radioactive imaging and nuclear medicine), of which the Chinese medicine specialty and the clinic medicine specialty are first-level doctoral and postgraduate degree-granting programs respectively.

As of September 2012, the school has 1131 full-time students, of which, 679 are undergraduates (including the students of Binjiang College), 452 are students in the seven-year-program Chinese medicine majors (undergraduate stage), 493 are postgraduates and 60 are doctoral students.
