School of Pharmacological Science

Founded in 1986, Pharmacological College is one of the oldest schools of the university. Formerly the Department of Chinese Medicine, it was renamed as the Department of Pharmaceutics in 1999 and then again renamed as School of Pharmaceutics in 2006. The school offered the vocational specialty of Chinese medicine in 1986, the Chinese medicine undergraduate specialty in 1994, the pharmaceutical preparation specialty in 2000, the pharmaceutics specialty in 2001, the food science and engineering specialty in 2003 and the medical herb cultivation and certification specialty. Currently the school has five undergraduate specialties, three research institutes of pharmaceutical preparation, Chinese medicine resources and pharmacology respectively, five faulty offices for pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutical chemistry, food, mathematics, and Chinese medicine, as well as six Zhejiang province key laboratories such as the Chinese medical preparation laboratory and Chinese medicine resource engineering laboratory, etc.; it has two tier-one-discipline postgraduate study programs for Chinese medicine and pharmaceutics, one Chinese medicine doctorate program and one Chinese medicine postdoctoral mobile research station; it is one of the few colleges that have in place a rather complete list of medical disciplines, are concentrated both in Chinese and western medicines, and capable of cultivation high-level talents including college students, masters and doctors.


The school is endowed with a team of teachers that are high in academic strength and reasonably structured. Currently the staff consists of 80 employees, of whom 19 have primary senior professional title, and 19 have secondary senior professional title; there are 8 doctoral supervisors and 23 postgraduate student instructors. 13 are candidates in the New Century “151” Talent Project of Zhejiang, 6 are young leaders in their specific field of research in Zhejiang universities and 2 are famous teachers in Zhejiang.


In recent years, the school has successively taken on more than 80 projects including national “863” special key projects, national natural science foundation projects, Ministry of Education scientific research key projects, SATCM key projects, Zhejiang province natural science foundation key projects and Zhejiang provincial department of science and technology key projects; it has won more than 20 prizes in Zhejiang province scientific advancement award, among others; it has headed or participated in the editing of nearly 50 textbooks and published more than 500 academic papers. During the past years, the students have won 157 awards of various types and have published 42 academic papers in academic journals of province-level or higher. The employment rate of the students of all specialties is higher than 90%.
