On the afternoon of November 21, 2019, the “West Lake Scholars” Forum on the Study of TCM Internationalization was held in Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, which was co-sponsored by Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and TCM Internalization R & D Center of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and co-organized by Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of TCM. Wen Chengping, the vice president of ZCMU delivered the opening speech. The forum was hosted by Song Xinyang, the vice director of TCM Internalization R & D Center of SHUTCM.

Nine experts and scholars specialized in different fields were invited to attend the forum and give keynote presentations. They are from Zhejiang University of Technology, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University, Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of TCM, Zhongshan Hospital of Zhejiang Province and ZCMU. Topics involved are TCM legislations, TCM developments in different countries, promotion of TCM overseas, constructions of TCM overseas centers, worldwide traditional medicines, international exchange and cooperation of TCM, and developing trend of TCM. All experts and scholars joined in-depth discussion concerning TCM internationalization and reached the consensus that international exchange and cooperation of TCM as well as inheritance and innovation of TCM should be further promoted.

So far, ZCMU has already set up 3 overseas centers for TCM (Romanian Center, Israeli Center, and Belarusian Center) and 2 overseas Confucius Institutes for TCM (Portuguese Confucius Institute at Universidade de Coimbra, South African Confucius Institute at University of the Western Cape). With the joint efforts of the university authorities and relevant departments, ZCMU has made remarkable achievements in overseas promotion, exchange and cooperation of TCM. 

Vice president Wen Chengping finally pointed out that the forum was an interdisciplinary exchange for TCM which offered exact direction and broadened the horizon for the development of TCM internationalization. We will further promote self-construction, upgrade the soft power and hard power of TCM, and make TCM more widely recognized and accepted in the world.
